The Family of God

133 A song to bring you higher, by King David

1 How truly wonderful and delightful

to see brothers and sisters living together in sweet unity!

2 It’s as precious as the sacred scented oil

flowing from the head of the high priest Aaron,

dripping down upon his beard and running all the way down

to the hem of his priestly robes.[a]

3 This heavenly harmony can be compared to the dew

dripping down from the skies upon Mount Hermon,

refreshing the mountain slopes of Israel.

For from this realm of sweet harmony

God will release his eternal blessing, the promise of life forever!

Of all the words to describe God, the one that stands out the most is 'Father'. What a father wants is a family. The people of God are supposed to be the family of God.

Eph. 3:14-15 - I bend my knee before the Father who has called by name the whole family in heaven and on earth…

God's original design was to create a family. When you have a family, your desire is that your children would be loving toward one another, creating meaningful relationships. God has the same desire, and in Jerusalem we can see a prophetic glimpse of the Father's heart as many people from different nations, backgrounds, and religions dwell together and relate to one another in community.

However sin has distorted Gods original design for family, and instead of harmony and healthy relationships, there is discord and conflict in the family. Instead of unity and intimacy with one another, there is mistrust and division.

But Jesus has come, as the elder brother, to show us how to live in harmony again. How to relate to God and how to relate to one another with a spirit of love, humility, and service.

For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility” - ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Romans 4:11-12 [it says of Abraham that he is] a father to all who believe, among those who are not circumcised … and the father of those who are circumcised… who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that Abraham our father had while he was not yet circumcised…

For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself. - ‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:39‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The people of God are to carry the purposes of God, and through Yeshua to reveal the Father's heart for the family of God.
