Is there any bird more child-like than the sparrow? When I see a playground full of children I’ll often imagine them as flocks of little sparrows flitting and trilling about fully abandoned to the moment without a care for tomorrow. Sparrows indeed call to our inner child inviting us to live in the same way - child-like with trust that we too are watched over and cared for by our Heavenly Father.

Small in size but beautuful in detail, this pair of tree sparrows were my companions for more than a week as they came to life stroke by stroke and layer by layer. Two tiny birds nestled nicely in the curve of a large tree brings a sense of rest to the composition, while the tension in the posture of the birds invites an unsettling question, what is it that has their attention?
